Marco Maria Gazzano

Marco Maria Gazzano is a film and media art theoretician and a curator. He graduated in Contemporary History at University of Turin with a thesis under the supervision of Nicola Tranfaglia and Guido Aristarco, and received a Ph.D. in Performing and Electronic Arts at Sapienza University of Rome in 1986. From 1984 to 1996, he curated the Videoart Festival Locarno, as well as exhibitions, events and conferences in Italy and abroad, notably on video art pioneers including Steina & Woody Vasulka and Nam June Paik.
From 1993 to 2006, he taught « Theory & History of Cinematography » at the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy in the University of Urbino « Carlo Bo ». He is Associate Professor of Cinema, Photography and Television at Roma Tre University. In 2012 he became an Honorary Professor at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee. He published Kinēma. Il cinema sulle tracce del cinema: dal film alle arti elettroniche, andata e ritorno (Exorma Edizioni ; 2012), a collection of his essays and articles.

Marco Maria Gazzano est un théoricien du cinéma et des nouveaux médias et un commissaire d’exposition. Il est diplômé en histoire contemporaine à l’Université de Turin avec une thèse sous la direction de Nicola Tranfaglia et Guido Aristarco, et a obtenu en 1986 un doctorat en « Arts performatifs et électroniques » à l’Université Sapienza de Rome. De 1984 à 1996, il a été commissaire du Videoart Festival Locarno. Il a conçu des expositions, événements et conférences en Italie et à l’étranger, notamment sur les pionniers de l’art vidéo, dont Steina & Woody Vasulka et Nam June Paik.
De 1993 à 2006, il a été enseignant en «Théorie et histoire du cinéma» à la Faculté de lettres et de philosophie de l’Université d’Urbino «Carlo Bo». Il est actuellement professeur associé de cinéma, photographie et télévision à l’Université Roma Tre. En 2012, il est devenu professeur honoraire au Duncan du Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Université de Dundee. Il a publié Kinēma. Il cinema sulle tracce del cinema: dal film alle arti elettroniche, andata e ritorno (Exorma Edizioni; 2012), un recueil de ses essais et articles.
